Four days ago, a petition was published on behalf of the Lane Legacy Project (LC Alumni), to push for the resignation of Dr. Logan Hampton, the current President of Lane College.

Members of the Lane College Alumni have banned together to insist that President Logan Hampton resigns from his position immediately. According to some Lane College Alumni, President Hampton is also responsible for the declined financial standing, hiring unqualified workers, and damaging the college’s brand while also putting students at risk. In their petition it says, “It is our determination that Dr. Logan Hampton has explicitly, and what would seem intentionally, failed to carry out his responsibilities as President, lacks sagaciousness, and an aptitude to serve in a leadership capacity with the ability to continue the legacy and traditions of our founder Bishop Isaac Lane.” Their conclusion to the standing concerns and issues of Lane College is that “Logan Hampton, President of Lane College- MUST GO!” The students and recent students of Lane College, who’ve attended the school under Dr. Logan’s term of presidency, however, are standing up to argue that President Logan Hampton must stay. A question regarding President Hampton’s recent work was asked to the students of Lane College: “What are some ways you feel that President Hampton has benefited Lane College and/or yourself?” Here are some of their answers:
1. “Dr. Hampton is a leader in all aspects. He gave me a chance on being a POP Scholar & welcoming me to Lane with open arms. He’s a huge fan of the band and all extracurricular activities on campus. I have also seen many positive chances to the campus, staff, and dorms since my freshman year. People don’t realize & understand that Dr. Hampton is just one man. But he has done great things for Lane College & I will forever be appreciative for it all.”
2. “Well I feel as though he honestly cares about the students mental and physical well-being on campus. From the actual beautification of the campus to some slight improvements in the cafe. He honestly listens to us and takes what we say seriously. Also, the fact that he walks around on campus and actually interacts with the students says a lot about how he values our opinion.”

3. “Dr. Hampton has always been there for me when needed and he’s a great guy. I can’t speak on what alumni has to say about him because I don’t have enough knowledge about things like that, but in my opinion he’s doing the best with what he’s been given. I appreciate him.”
4, “Opportunity. He is the reason I re-enrolled at Lane College. After almost being stabbed in my face in 2015, I left [because] I didn’t feel safe. I returned once I saw the changes. Lane is my home!”
5. “I was at a point of giving up, felt alone, depressed, always walked with my head down, and he'd always be the only one to ask if I was okay... He took time out of his day, every day for a hot minute and came to my dorm room to check on me. He's a really good dude and I hope people realize that more.”
These are less than half the testimonies received from Lane College students, but even in low numbers the student testimonies go to show that whether Hampton is innocent or guilty of the current accusations, they will stand with and by him no matter what. Because in their opinion, President Hampton has always done more than just his job. He looks out for his students, cares for them, helps and supports them in any and every was possible. Many of the students even applaud and look up to him for his outstanding job as leader of Lane College. And regardless to what the Lane College Alumni has to say about President Hampton, the students actually attending Lane College see it best fit that their President, Dr. Logan Hampton, keeps his current position.
